Prayer, A New Wave is Coming, Pt. 1

Prayer sometimes moves the hand of God. Sometimes it moves people to do impossible things in His name. For the next three programs, Norm and Cher explore the power of prayer in a modern world. Can it really make a difference? Norm's recent trip to the World Prayer Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia leaves no doubt.

What’s Happening with the Assyrians?

Assyrians, you say? Who are the Assyrians? That's a common question we get. Well, they're one of the largest people groups in Iraq, and the oldest Christian Community in the world. That's why it's so distressing that they're on the verge of extinction, literally and culturally.

Jim Jennings knows plenty of about it, because he knows plenty of Assyrians. He and Norm have traveled together in Assyria many times. Today he brings us the latest news, and a rousing call to pray and action!

Campaign for Burma

Norm makes a new friend today. Jennifer Quigley is the voice of a new generation. If you think all young people are clueless on the issues of persecution around the world, think again.  Working the halls of power in multiple nations, Jennifer is having a profound impact through the organization she represents, the Campaign for Burma.

The Body in Burma, Pt. 2

Norm continues his conversation with Terry Madison about the situation in Myanmar (Burma) for believers there.

The Body in Burma, Pt. 1

Norm welcomes back good friend and expert on the persecuted church, Terry Madison.  In the country of Myanmar (Burma), Christian citizens are treated with contempt, harassment and even violence by their government. It is a truly closed and oppressive nation. Does that mean the Church is on the decline there? Hardly. But their lives truly are 'hard.' What can we do? Well, Compassion Radio is already doing it! You'll heard 'what' and 'how' today and tomorrow.

Salvation Army in Burma

How does a rough lorrie driver end up living the adventure of a modern Adoniram Judson? Norm finds out in this highly entertaining and inspiring interview with Barrie Sampson.

Building The Church in Burma

Jacob & Sandar Mung join Norm today to tell the inside story on Christianity in Burma. If we're going to equip the pastors there, it's helpful to understand what challenges they face!

Surprising Persecution

Persecution comes in many forms and varying intensities. For Christians, it's a worldwide phenomenon. Why? Because faithful Christians have taken the Great Commission to heart and are reaching into every country, tribe - and soon - every language on earth. That kind of effort is bound to run into opposition somewhere. Still it's sometimes surprising where it pops up, and for what reasons. Thank God He's not surprised. Our Good friend, Jim Jennings, provides a world's worth of wisdom and insight on the matter.

A Christian Perspective on the Syrian Refugee Crisis

The news reports have continued to be vague and incomplete from the frontlines in Syria. We're hearing even less from the refugee camps that litter the borders with Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon. But Compassion Radio has a long history reaching out to the Church in Syria and we do know enough to help. Right now at least 850 Christian Syrian families continue to huddle in the mountains of Lebanon waiting out the conflict. The situation is dire and gets more so with time. Norm's guest today, Dr. Martin Accad, will help fill in the details so we can pray and act more effectively.

What is God Doing for the World’s Refugees?

Enoch Wan, our good friend, is up to his armpits in crises and challenges. And he wouldn't have it any other way! So how do you know what God is up to in a hurting world? You chase down His people doing great work in seemingly impossible situations...

Conversation with “Fiker”

We often hear it's important to know our roots. They keep us grounded. Now what if you've been UProoted and planted somewhere else? A place and a destiny over which you had no control? Well, in the case of today's guest, that has turned out to be a very good thing. Why? Because Jesus became her real home. And  even at a tender age, 'Kingdom Living' has become her living reality. You'll find out how, as Norm welcomes a girl named 'Fiker' to the mic.

Report from Iraq

After a decade of mind-numbing war reports from Iraq, our attention has shifted to the 'new' thing called 'ISIS.' What's easy to forget is that this 'new' thing is really a continuation of the 'old' war - and it's being fought on the same ground.

It's getting no easier for the Christians in the crossfire, so it's vitally important that we pray for them without ceasing. So what should we pray for, specifically? Well, our old friend Dan Wooding has recently spent time within rifleshot of the latest frontlines. He brings us the story of his latest adventure, today.

A Prophetic Minority, Pt. 2

All of the world's problems had a cause, and all of them have solutions. How do you choose which ones to address, first? It can be overwhelming, and it's certainly impossible to tackle everything alone. That's why God made a body called the Church. It has billions of arms and legs to accomplish any task He calls us to.

But, again, where to start? Tough question, and the Nelsons are brave (or foolhardy) enough to take a shot at answering it...

A Prophetic Minority, Pt. 1

There's a lot being said today about what the Church ought to be saying. Better to spill ink than blood. But is that all the Gospel is? A lot of talk?

Norm and Cher think a bit differently, and our Compassion Radio Partners love them for it. For the next two programs they take a hard look at the headlines with a truly eternal perspective.

Changing Lives in Nigeria, Pt. 2

Norm completes an important discussion with Bill & Dorothy Ardill on how the Gospel is changing lives in Nigeria and preserving some of the most unique cultures in Africa in the process.

00:0000:00

Changing Lives in Nigeria, Pt. 1

What does it take to change a life?  What kind of change is needed? In the populous, tumultuous and rapidly changing nation of Nigeria, the answers might surprise you. Bill & Dorothy Ardill join Norm in studio for the first of this first part of a two part series.

Who’s in Charge in Nigeria - Boko Haram or God?

Jim Jennings spends some time with Norm giving insight and perspective on another hot spot of religious persecution - Nigeria.

The Pastor

"If you love me, feed my sheep."  Famous words from Jesus to Peter in John chapter 21. It's followed by an arguably more important exhortation that we don't talk about much. Jesus tells the first great pastor that he will suffer for his flock. "Follow Me," says Jesus. In what? The way of suffering. Today, Norm has an important discussion with a great man of letters, a prolific author, but most importantly, a faithful shepherd.  You might have seen his name just past the flyleaf of your Message translation bible.  His name is Eugene Peterson.

Understanding John Wesley

Together with his brother Charles, John Wesley transformed the spiritual topography of the 18th Century. His unabashed enthusiasm for a personal encounter with Jesus Christ turned the staid religious traditions of the day on its head. But how did he come to experience the 'Power that Transforms?'

Norm's guest, Andrew Atherstone is a resident expert and scholar on the life of John Wesley and shares with us from those hallowed halls of Oxford University where it all began.

Understanding Christian Mission

It seems simple enough - 'preach the Gospel to All Peoples.' That's the Great Commission, right? Things tend to get a little more complicated when we actually try to accomplish this simple command. We're talking about reaching 7 billion people, after all. But does it need to be that way? Is the Gospel really like a bloated government program that no one really understands or can get a handle on?

Or can it be... simpler? Scott Sundquist has some intriguing answers and insights for us, today.

There is a River

Where is the Spirit flowing? Where is God's will moving? Well, a well-laid bed holds a river. If we follow the contours, we'll find out where it's headed. Better yet, let's jump in and get fully immersed. Then we'll get the full experience! Jim Governale joins Norm in studio, today.
