Everyone is Called to Ministry

Garrett Reid seems to think we actually have a shot at reaching the whole world for Jesus Christ - in this generation, even. Why would he hang on to such a fanciful notion? Why discuss hare-brained schemes? Well, Norm's about to find out, and so will we...

What If No Christians Are Left?

Today in the Middle East, the Rule of Unintended Consequences is in full force. Military action intended to liberate and stabilize has resulted in a new truly Dark Age. That is most true for the oldest Christian communities on Earth. The slaughter and displacement could result in not a single Christian left in a number of countries. Does it matter? Should we care? Norm and Cher dig into the unfolding tragedy, today.

Safe Place for Refugees

Pastor Fitsom is tackling an impossible problem in his country of Eritrea. Good thing he serves a God who specializes in proving "impossible" doesn't exist. This pastor's faith should be our reaching out to the millions of refugees currently on the run from dozens of tragic conflicts.

What is “Missional?”

Breakthroughs often require new ways of thinking. Sometimes they require brand new words. Over the centuries, something had been lost in our understanding of the Great Commission. How to put it into words? That was the problem facing theologian and researcher Darrell Guder. It took some imagination to give new birth to an old concept. Thankfully, imagination is one of Darrell's gifts! He joins Norm today on the road for a closer look.

Open Heart; Open Hands: Answering the Refugee Problem

We don't do 'Desperation' very well. Especially when we're afraid. The current 'Crisis of Isis' is not an immigrant story, but we can't escape soem of Neil Diamond's lyrics from his anthem "AMERICA":

Far, We've been traveling far
Without a home But not without a star

Free, Only want to be free
We huddle close, Hang on to a dream
Home, Don't it seem so far away
Oh, we're traveling light today
In the eye of the storm - In the eye of the storm

Of course, the Syrian, Kurd and Iraqi refugee are not 'coming to America.' They're simply running from certain death by starvation or violence. And by far most of them will end up in Middle Eastern and European countries. Yet a few will choose the long route through the grueling vetting process to be admitted to the United States. While the man on the street frets about potential terrorists, how should the Body of Christ, the Kingdom of God respond? Today, Norm and Cher tackle that question head-on.

Peace - Building in Syria

Norm welcomes guest  Lauren Homer, recorded on site at the 2015 National Religious Broadcasters Convention, Nashville, TN.

Christians Under Fire

Every day news reaches our inboxes from around the globe detailing the suffering of Christians, punished for no other reason than simple hatred of their faith. Frankly, it breaks our hearts. But it also reminds us of something else - the incredible spiritual and numerical growth that results when true believers are put to the test. We remember those today who stand unspeakable tests of faith endurance, and honor their Lord in the process. And, we rejoice that it means a latter day miracle in places once impenetrable to the Gospel.

A dear friend, Steve Snyder knew all this intimately. His untimely death left an incredible void in our knowledge of the suffering church. But what he had to say before God called him home we need to pay close attention to.

Syrian Refugees in Antioch

Turkey is on the frontlines of the war in Syria. And that means millions of refugees. If the Christian world is going to have any positive impact - especially on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Christians caught in the crossfire - it's time to get an insider's look at the situation. Dr. Mark Gopin is just the guy, and he joins Norm, today.

What Wins Muslims to Christ

When was the last time your were frightened or intimidated into doing something? How'd that work out for you? You probably regretted or resented it.

Fear is only helpful when you're running away. It has never been a virtue of Christian faith. But there's another kind of fear - that of letting someone down whom you dearly love. And that kind of fear has real virtue. And it's the kind of fear at the heart of the Great Commission.
Today's guest, John Azuma, is exactly the kind of person we say we want to reach - a devoted follower of Mohammed. How he came to faith in Jesus, and what it means for evangelism today, is a fascinating story. You'll hear it today.

Three Attitudes Enhancing Muslim Ministry

Where's the sweet aroma of the Gospel in a 'Vinegar World?' It's a good question... It seems like the Church in America has bought into a vision of fear, hate and resistance to people, when the Word of God calls us to resist the devil and his schemes. How did we get it so backwards? One word - FEAR.  and fear is shifting sand - you'll never build anything secure on it.

Today Norm and Jim discuss how Christ is actually reaching Muslims around the world, and it's not through fear, hate or opposition.

A Wind In the House of Islam, Pt. 2

David Garrison gives us a stunning peek behind the curtain of Islam, today, in part two of this powerful series.

A Wind In the House of Islam, Pt. 1

Syrian Refugees, Need and Difficulty

Usually, you begin to define a nation by its boundaries. That's not so easy with Syria these days. The civil war has spread a large percentage of its population into three neighboring countries. Thousands and thousand more have fled even farther. Just because they've left the violence doesn't mean they're no longer a concern. Our good friend, Samya Johnson joins Norm for a searing look at the situation, and all from a Christ-bound perspective.

What Are We Going To Do?? (About Islam’s Amazing Growth)

ISIS on the march, and Islam on the rise - can it be stopped? Not if we don't start doing something different! Anyone who thinks reaching the world for Christ is impossible in the light of the current surge of Islam hasn't been reading their bibles - at least not very thoroughly. It was a whole lot more "impossible" when it was only 12 men and a few hundred helpers. It took them a while, for sure. But no faith in history has gained so many adherents, in so many places, other than Christianity.

So, what do we do about all those Muslims? Glad you asked... Jim and Norm discuss it, today.

A Pastor’s Heart for Her Native Syria

"Home is where the heart is," they say. Well, in Nancy Samara's case, that means a heart torn in multiple directions. As  Kingdom citizen, her heart beats for her King. As a child of Syria, the King's compassion draws her to the center of that nation's ongoing suffering. When others flee and say "good riddance," she can't let go so easily. And her King would expect her to...

Have This Mind in You, Pt. 2

Norm concludes his discussion with Mark Labberton, recently-installed president of Fuller Seminary.

Have This Mind In You, Pt. 1

Mark Labberton is making a big impact in his new job as President of Fuller Seminary. Norm finds out how and why, today.

Spy for Hope!

Dan Wooding and Norm Nelson each have a few secrets. Get them together, and they're likely to spill the beans. Today, we'll get behind the scenes in the world of international missions with two of the greatest characters in the business!

The Jesus Manifesto

Sometimes the things you see as obvious and true are radical ideas to others.  Norm's guest today, Leonard Sweet, knows that full-well. And sometimes the things that have always been true have to be proclaimed anew to a generation who hasn't discovered it.

The Next Child

How do you change the world? One child at a time. Sounds like a great bumper sticker, doesn't it? A more important question might be why change the world, or bother with the children at all? Norm's personal quest for the answers led to some startling, and life-changing consequences.

Remember & Forget - Themes for a New Year

Looking forward to amazing things in 2016? So are we. Sometimes discovering the 'new' means first forgetting the 'old.'
