Remembering Marilyn

Compassion Radio is not about bully pulpits. It's about thousands of gentle voices, big hearts and mustard-seed faith. One such soul embodied all of that, and she was right at the heart of this ministry. Today we give tribute to Marilyn Huizenga, a lady who quietly ministered to thousands, and made Compassion Radio much of what it is today.

Luke’s Gospel of Amazement

"Shock and Awe" - it's not just a military term for overwhelming force. When Jesus entered the scene over 2000 years ago, he turned the world on its head, by the power of his words, and the force of his miracle-making moral authority. It's still the same today.

Norm welcomes a new 'voice' to Compassion Radio today - the incomparable musician, poet and theologian, Michael Card. He'll bring to life the Gospel of Luke in a way that ought to 'shock' our sensibilities and instill a new 'awe' within us.

Inside North Korea, Pt. 2

Today Norm and Cher complete a fascinating look behind the 'Bamboo Curtain,' explaining how Christianity is making amazing inroads, and how a surprising spiritual legacy led to the current explosion.

Inside North Korea, Pt. 1

What's really going on inside the 'Hermit Kingdom?' Norm and Cher have some personal experience in the matter. Even while being tightly managed by their Communist handlers, they managed to establish real working relationships that have enabled needed relief for the oppressed population. They have also worked to encourage the underground and growing church there. Today and tomorrow, we go behind the 'Bamboo Curtain.'

One Nation Without God

As patriotic citizens in America we often say things like "It's what unites us that makes us strong." But what if what 'unites' us actually 'divides' us... from God?

Norm's guest today, David Aikman, asks a provocative question - "What would an America without God look like?" The quick answer - "Just look around you!" Troubling, indeed! But is it hopeless? Well if you know anything about Compassion Radio by now, you'll already know our response! If you don't enjoy the subject matter today, perhaps you'll at least find it eye-opening, challenging, even motivational...

The New Shape of World Christianity

What does a Christian look like? How old? What color? How rich or poor? How many people does he live with? Or is the average Christian a she? Mark Noll is Norm's guest today as they take a hard look at the reality of Christianity beyond the borders of our comfortable American village.

What Good is God?

Suffering continues around the world. Our brightest scientists and philosophers have dismissed the notion of a God who cares and engages with His creation, much less the wayward people He left in charge of the place. How can God possibly be real? And even if He is, what difference could it possibly make? Norm's guest today, Philip Yancey, doesn't shy away from such questions. In fact he doggedly pursues them with the tenacity of a journalist. He's got plenty to share with us today.

Mission to Malawi, Pt. 1

Things are changing in Africa. And in some places change is coming at a blistering pace. Some change is not so good - others are profound and for the best. Norm's guests today sort out the differences in one important corner of what used to be the 'Dark Continent.'

Islam at the Crossroads

Where is Islam headed? Is there a coherent vision and plan behind the 'jihad' we keep reading about? Is it an unstoppable force bent on world-wide domination? Well, if you listen to much mainstream media, and Christian media for that matter, you'd be left with that impression.

But perhaps the more important question is 'What is God's plan?'

Norm's guest today, Paul Marshall is here to help bring the real issues into focus.

The Jesus Manifesto

Sometimes the things you see as obvious and true are radical ideas to others.  Norm's guest today, Leonard Sweet, knows that full-well. And sometimes the things that have always been true have to be proclaimed anew to a generation who hasn't discovered it.

Update On St. George’s Church

Today Norm and Jim take a look back at some of the most difficult days at St. George's Church in Baghdad, and our good friend, Canon Andrew White. A troubling yet inspiring listen.

00:0000:00

St. George’s Church in Baghdad

It's widely recognized as the world's most dangerous parish. It's inner-city, it's poor and it's old. And it's literally located in the navel of historic Christianity.

Yet this church isn't really 'poor' at all - at least not in the measurements that mean the most. St. George's is rich, full of joy and reaching an entire nation with the Gospel of Jesus. It grows daily in numbers and influence. It's the 'bleeding edge' of modern Christianity in more ways than one, as you'll hear today.

Stewards in the Kingdom, Pt. 2

Yesterday began a fascinating interview with Scott Rodin, a financial expert with a dream: liberating people to pursue their biggest, God-sized dreams. With a little intentional planning and a little faith it's possible to change the world. Sometimes we need more than just a little know-how. We need that extra encouragement from someone who knows what they're doing.
