What Good is God?

Suffering continues around the world. Our brightest scientists and philosophers have dismissed the notion of a God who cares and engages with His creation, much less the wayward people He left in charge of the place. How can God possibly be real? And even if He is, what difference could it possibly make? Norm's guest today, Philip Yancey, doesn't shy away from such questions. In fact he doggedly pursues them with the tenacity of a journalist. He's got plenty to share with us today.

Iraq Through the Eyes of Jesus

Did Jesus abandon Iraq? It would be convenient for Western Christians if that was the case. We wouldn't be required to do anything about the suffering that continues in that nation. But there is a remnant of Christian believers there, and just as importantly, millions of others who need someone to love them like Christ loves them. So Compassion Radio has chosen the road less traveled.

In this report from 2006, Norm and producer Glenn Owen discuss what can be done to help the Christian church in Iraq, and why. The reasons are just as valid in 2011.

Civility

An emotionally disturbed young man attempts a political assassination, kills six innocent bystanders and wounds a dozen others in the process. As America mourns, opportunists and the media inflame political passions instead of helping to heal the wounds. Frankly, it's sickening.

So, what should be the Christian response to such incivility? Norm's guest, Richard Moux, brings some much-needed perspective. As president of Fuller Theological Seminary, he helps prepare leaders to lead, and in a way that Christ would be proud of.

Behind the Baghdad Bombings

"It just can't get any worse..." We've said it ourselves more than once when it comes to the ongoing suffering of our Christian brothers and sisters in Iraq. Faith in the Fog of War

He's seen things he'd rather forget. Horrors we don't want to even imagine. Where could God possibly be in the war-strewn streets of Iraq during the early days of the Second Gulf War? Norm's guest today, tells us. His personal experience stretched his faith to the limit. His commitment was close to shattering. Yet at the very moment of despair some amazing things happened in the heart of Sergeant Chris Plekenpol. We're please to bring his story to you today.

Iraq: A Traveling Broadcaster’s Point of View, Pt. 1

Some things seem to change constantly - others seem eternally stuck in the past. That can be a good thing, or a bad thing.

Baghdad Iraq is completely foreign to most of us, even after 10 years of being in the headlines. What we do know is mostly a chaotic mashup of unrelated images and breathless commentary. So how does one really understand the place? How do you get to know the people? Well, you can go there for yourself... time and time again. Or you listen closely to someone who really knows the place, the people, the history, and the potential.  You could leave your radio dial tuned to this program for the next 26 minutes, for example.

We're taking the message to the world and the local Church. And by their invitation, Norm brought his personal knowledge of the situation in Iraq  to a whole new audience. You'll hear some of the highlights today.

Welcome to Base Camp

A journey of a thousand miles... well, you know the rest.

The great adventures of Compassion Radio rarely start on the even, well-trod pavement of common roads. They are more like expeditions into the wilderness; attempts on the great summits. So as important as a good attitude is for the long haul ahead, preparation is at least as important. We don't accidentally waltz our way into the slums of  Baghdad or the border skirmishes of Burma. We train for it. We pack the right equipment. We find the right guides.  So, where is Compassion Radio headed in 2011? Let's sit down together for a while and prayerfully sort it out! Welcome to Base Camp.
